Designing
And Building Your
Steel
Building
|
We
design new factory
structures and modify
existing structures (and
turnkey projects) for any
application to the
requirement of our
customers, using internal
expertise, structural,
mechanical and civil
design consultants.
Working closely with
Architects and Engineers
we provide you with the
best possible advice for a
full and comprehensive
service from design to
completion of your steel building project. No
matter what type of steel building you’re looking
for - large, small or
anything in between - we
can offer you a host of
benefits. And we'll
also ensure that you're
satisfied with your
building experience.
Competitive
pricing, efficiency,
quality workmanship and
on-time construction are
basic requirements for the
success of steel building
projects.
Economy
is gained not only by
savings in steel mass
through careful design,
but also by the adoption
of simple, efficient
construction details that
can be processed in the
workshop at minimum cost.
It
must be stressed that
while the objective is the
attainment of a greater
degree of economy, the
cost-saving techniques
used do not in any way
allow for a reduction in
the required level of
quality of a steel
structure.
Steel
Building Roof Pitch
The
slope of a steel building's
roof is expressed by a ratio
called "roof
pitch," which indicates
the number of mm a roof
rises vertically for every 1M
it runs horizontally. The
choice of roof pitch is
important for several
reasons. It will affect the
size, the look, the
performance, and the cost of
your building.
Roof
Pitch: Pros and Cons
There
are advantages and
disadvantages to consider
with both higher and lower
roof pitches. Though they
add to the cost of the
building, higher-pitched
roofs increase both the
total cubic metres as well
as the maximum inside
clearance for relatively
little money. If you can
take advantage of the
extra space above the
eaves, it is an added
bonus. Also, the extra
volume lessens heat
buildup in non
air-conditioned buildings.
Higher pitched roofs shed
rain and snow more quickly
and are less likely to
leak. Finally, a
higher-pitched roof is
more visible, something
you should consider when
deciding between a
coloured or standard roof.
Low-pitched
roofs also have some
definite advantages in
certain situations. First
of all, they require less
material and therefore
cost slightly less. A
lower pitch also reduces
the total cubic metres,
making it easier and less
expensive to heat and cool
the steel building.
Because a low-pitched roof
is less visible, there is
little reason to spend
extra money for coloured
panels. Finally, some
people just prefer a lower
profile for their
building.

The
world-wide major trend in present-day
factory construction continues away from
handcrafting at the building site towards
on-site assembly of ever larger, more
integrated components manufactured away
from the site. Another characteristic
of contemporary building, related to this
trend, is the greater amount of
dimensional coordination; that is,
buildings are designed and components
manufactured in multiples of a standard
module, which drastically reduces the
amount of cutting and fitting required on
the building site. |
This
does not mean that structural
specifications suffer in any way - it
simply has the effect of containing your
factory building costs, which we can then
pass onto YOU, the customer.
Normally,
standard module sizes are as below:
Please
note:
Span:
refers to the width of the building
(the end of the building). Like the photo
with the tractor above indicates.
The
height of the column means wall height.
IOW where the roof meets the wall.
And
the length is determined in bays - with
each bay being 5m wide. Consequently, the
length can be as long as you may require.
-
9m
span x 3m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
12m
span x 3.6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
15m
span x 3.6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
18m
span x 3.6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
20m
span x 6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
25m
span x 6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
-
30m
span x 6m high column x any multiple
of 5m
Click
here to see some sections (parts) of a
typical drawing to show what we mean about
bay spacing at 5m each as well as width
(or span) and the height.
Don't
get us wrong here: these 9m to 30m spans
are the most economical spans; clear spans
of up to 240m are possible.
